Cedar shingles

Cedar shingles are also known as cedar shakes which are basically shingles made from wood. Cedar shingles have been used for roofing and cladding of exterior walls for a very long time. Cedar shingles provide long-lasting protection from the elements and add a rustic look and feel to your home.

What is the difference between white cedar shingles and red cedar shingles?

Left unpainted or unfinished, white shingles come to take on a pretty silver-gray color. Red shingles, on the other hand, appear rich and classic in their natural state. However, red cedar shingles cannot be painted, while white shingles can be painted any desired color as they naturally absorb paint well.

What is the difference between cedar shingles and cedar shakes?

Cedar shakes are split off while shingles are sawn smooth on both sides and cut tapered. Lastly, shakes are thicker than shingles. Durability – Generally speaking, cedar shakes are more durable and last longer than shingles because they are thicker and made from premium grade wood

How long will painted cedar last?

Five to seven years
High-quality paint or stain, properly applied, should last five to seven years, and as many as 10, depending on weather conditions and if you maintain the siding. However, you may need to reapply a clear-coat stain every two years.
